Portuguese surfer Frederico Morais from Cascais, Portugal has won the 2nd edition of the Martinique Surf Pro, a Qualifying Series 3000 event in the French West Indies.

The waiting period’s best waves greeted the spot of Basse Pointe in Martinique on the final day of competition.

In 4-5 foot waves Frederico disposed of Luke Hynd, Evan Geiselman and Patrick Gudauskas in Round 6.

In his Quarter Final heat he had to battle it out with good friend and compatriot Vasco Ribeiro. At the end of the heat Morais managed to collect two waves for a total of 18.17, one of the highest heat totals of the event, resulting in a combination situation for Ribeiro.

In semifinal number two Morais beat Australian Luke Hynd to then come out victorious against tour veteran Gonzalo Zubizarreta from Spain in the final.

Says Frederico: “I had an incredible time over here in Martinique. Everyone is super friendly, I had great waves throughout the whole week and I want to thank everyone for the amazing support. Congratulations to Gony for a great final and some excellent surfing. See you next year!”
