March 2, 2016 – Rip Curl Head Office – Torquay, Australia: Tyler Wright, the powerhouse from Culburra, NSW has extended her partnership with long time sponsor Rip Curl, which began when she was eight years old.

Wright, 21, has remained a consistent challenger for the WSL World Title since joining the Championship Tour in 2011, twice a World Title runner-up, and a constant in the WSL top five.

The smiley natural-footer is easily one of the key trailblazers of modern women’s surfing. She’s the possessor of an iconic power-style often unleashed at the heavy waves of Tahiti, Hawaii and Fiji, who’s equally impressive on rail and in the air.

Heading into the 2016 season, Wright said she has many good memories with Rip Curl.

“There’s a lot with my brother Owen. I’ve surfed the biggest and scariest waves on Search trips, and it’s always entertaining. Every trip we do there’s always so much fun to be had – with the whole entire crew, not just the surfers.

“There’s a sense of family, knowing the company and crew for so long, they’ve been there with support since I was eight, and they’ve continued to support me.

“I am looking forward to kicking back into competitive gear though, I really enjoy it and I am aiming to have a great year.

“This year I have a coach and that’s a pretty big change for me. It has been exciting to work with Glenn ‘Micro’ Hall (former World Tour competitor) this past month, he’s been helping me with a wholistic approach to achieve everything that I’ve set out to do in the coming years. Every event is different and creates a different level of excitement for me, the first one at Snapper is always a fun one; it’s the perfect wave and place to kick off my campaign.”

Rip Curl Global Advertising and Promotions Chairman Neil Ridgway said he was stoked to have Tyler continue her long relationship with Rip Curl.

“She’s an outstanding surfer and has been beating the likes of Layne and Steph since she was a little girl. I can see a World Title in her for sure and I can see her surfing waves that other surfers would be afraid to take on – which I love about her too. Any way we can help her to achieve her dream – we will.”

Wright will surf her first heat this week at The Australian Open of Surfing at Manly Beach, Sydney, and commences her 2016 World Title campaign at the point break of Snapper Rocks next month from March 10-21.
