Thanks to his performances this year (3x times quarter finalist in Margaret River, Squarema and Ballito), the Quiksilver athlete, Aritz Aranburu (EUK), 28, is officially qualified for the ASP World Tour next year.
Ranked n°26 in the ASP World Ranking, the basque is now assured to receive one of the 10 qualifying spots for the World Tour.

Aritz rode his first shortboard at the age of seven and since 2002; the young Basque has regularly been one of europe’s best performers.

An electrifying surfer, Aritz loves riding the world’s biggest waves, with his friend ibon Amatriain, the first european to be invited to the eddie Aikau event at waimea Bay, hawaii.

2007 was an exceptional year for Aritz, his season started by taking a first place at the hangloose pro 5 star wQs in Brazil, then he made the final at the sooruz lacanau pro wQs 6 star. Aritz’s best win however was on his home turf at the Zarautz pro surf 3 star wQs. finishing off the year with a 5th place finish at the 6 star haleiwa meant Aritz had accomplished his dreams and qualified for the Asp world tour.

however the start of the 2008 season didn’t go well, during the opening event of the year at the Quiksilver pro gold Coast, Aritz severely injured his knee forcing his absence from four events. he competed in the last seven events and placed 9th at the Billabong pipeline Masters and his determination to stay in the top level was rewarded with him receiving the injury wildcard, allowing requalification to the elite tour in 2009.

By the end of the 2009 season, Aritz finished rated 39th and didn’t requalify for the following season. 2010 marked his return to the wQs Circuit, where he had a great performance in Brazil. the Basque surfer had two great results at the super surf international and the Maresia surf international.

The man from Zarautz will rejoin the elite ranks and his teammate Jeremy Flores in 2014.
