20-year-old French surfer Pauline Ado becomes the first European woman to qualify for a second year on the ASP World Tour by requalifying for the 2012 ASP Women’s World Tour at the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, California
Despite only needing to make it through one round of the US Open of Surfing — the final stop on the 2011 ASP Women’s World Tour — Pauline Ado still felt the pressure to secure her place among 2012’s elite Top 17 women. Ado, a rookie this year, is the first European woman to requalify for a second year on the prestigious ASP World Tour and is cementing herself as one of the top female surfers on the planet whilst raising the bar for female surfing across Europe.
“It’s a relief,” said Ado. “I knew I was really close to making it after the last event in France, but you never know. Now that I’ve qualified, I’m looking forward to next season and will definitely be more experienced.”
“It’s fantastic and well deserved,” explains old friend and Rip Curl coach Gilles Darqué. “Pauline has been training really hard this season, not only in her surfing but in her physical fitness as well … her efforts are paying off.”
Other big news for the World Number 9-ranked surfer is the resigning of a 3-year sponsorship agreement with long-time sponsor, Rip Curl.
Ado has been sponsored by Rip Curl since she was 10 years old and has had an amazing career both in Europe and internationally since she began riding for Rip Curl.
“I feel very lucky to have Rip Curl’s support wherever I go. It’s great to know that you have total support when you are on the Tour, traveling all year long,” Ado said.

Pauline ADO rentre dans l’histoire du surf !
C’est en début de semaine à Huntington Beach (CAL) que Pauline ADO s’est officiellement requalifiée sur l’ASP World Tour 2011-12.
Il fallait que Pauline passe au minimum un tour sur l’US OPEN lundi dernier pour s’assurer l’année prochaine une place sur ce circuit prestigieux. Cette performance fait rentrer la jeune hendayaise de 20 ans dans l’histoire. En effet c’est la première fois qu’une surfeuse européenne se qualifie sur le World Tour et réussit à s’y maintenir deux années consécutives…
Une superbe performance à rajouter à un palmarès déjà bien chargé (voir ci-dessous).
« C’est fantastique et mérité » commente Gilles Darqué qui a été le coach Rip Curl de Pauline ces 10 dernières années. « Elle s’est entrainée dur toute la saison, non seulement en surf mais aussi physiquement, les efforts payent… »
Une bonne nouvelle n’arrivant jamais seule, Pauline vient aussi de résigner avec Rip Curl (son sponsor depuis l’âge de 12 ans) un contrat de 3 ans.

Pauline a débuté le surf à Hendaye à l’âge de 9 ans. Après 2 titres de championne d’Europe Junior en 2005 (à 14 ans) et 2007 (16 ans) elle devient la première non australienne surfeuse à devenir Championne du monde Junior le 6 janvier 2009 à Narabeen Beach à peine âgée de 17 ans…
