HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (September 5, 2014) – The Huntington Beach Art Center is pleased to present an evening of surf films as the closing event to the exhibition The Art and Soul of Surfing.
We are honored to screen the award winning film Hawaiian: The Legend of Eddie Aikau and pipeline and Kelly Slater, Wave of the Winter Documentary produced by Surfline. Both films share the stories of soul surfers and the quest for the balance of life and the ocean. Directed by Sam George (Former Editor of Surfer Magazine) and produced by Paul Taublieb and Stacy Peralta (Dogtown and ZBoys), The Legend of Eddie Aikau shares the iconic story of a true Hawaiian who had the heart of a Waterman and who ultimately gave his life to save others. Pipeline and Kelly Slater, Wave of the Winter Documentary, directed by Marc Beaty and produced by Mike Cianciulli, tells of this most recent Winter and the waves that were ridden by the brave surfers on the North Shore of Hawaii. The film features Kelly Salter, Gerry Lopez, and Jamie O’Brien, as well as many others. Wave of the Winter is a special event produced by Surfline, where the surfer who rides the best wave of the Winter on the North Shore of Hawaii receives a $25,000 prize. Participants of both films are scheduled to attend and a Q&A will follow the screening. The evening presentation highlights the beauty and inspiration of surfing and is a fitting tribute to The Art and Soul of Surfing exhibition as well as a celebration of the end of summer and acknowledgment of the great artistic expression of surfing.
